Las Vegas is commonly known as Sin City, the last bastion of the wild west/pioneer spirit.  Las Vegas still offers legalized gambling, 24 Hour Bars and Clubs, the best in adult entertainment, and legalized prostitution in nearby counties.  Visitors from all over the globe are attracted by the decadence and the glorious adult entertainment that is not only available but has become the most exciting in the world.

Las Vegas offers a long history of enterprise, glamour, and excitement.  The lifestyle Las Vegas offers is perhaps the best in the world with live entertainment, amazing night clubs, casinos, and many other attractions readily available to the locals and caters to the visitors.  Amazing wonders are an everyday occurrence in Sin City.

Sin City is a popular moniker for Las Vegas.  Abandoned by Mormon Missionaries, Las Vegas which is  Spanish for “the Meadows,” began from humble origins.

Simply a railroad stop on the way to Los Angeles, Las Vegas became a world renowned city in its own right.  Why?  Because a town that was in the middle of the Mojave Desert and by many an afterthought on the way to L.A.

When you think of the old west, you imagine saloons, girls, gambling and the rugged beauty provided by nature.  Unlike many towns that offered pleasure seekers the opportunity to indulge, Las Vegas never ceased and has always basked in the Pioneer Spirit.

Even during the great depression, which rightful should have crushed Las Vegas, Sin City prospered.  The construction of the Boulder Dam, aka the Hoover Dam sent thousands of workers to Las Vegas and millions of government funds.

With a pocket full of hard earned cash, where do you go in the middle of the desert?  Sin City.  Workers from the dam ended up on Freemont Street and indulged in every pleasure.

Las Vegas – A Dream in the Desert

It was all here, brothels, gambling, and drinking.  Picture it. . . Wild West themed saloons that promised visits Las Vegas was “Still A Frontier Town.”  Wooden sidewalks, hitching posts, wagon wheels on the casino walls and sawdust on the floors, Las Vegas was the wild west.  The divorce process during the early part of the Twentieth Century was arduous at best.  Divorces drove people to Las Vegas.  Divorcing in Las Vegas was short and sweet unlike the puritanical restrictions placed on by other state laws.

The first resorts began popping up when the road between L.A. and Sin City was refurbished and it wasn’t long before the City of Angels’ Guy McAfee successfully took over what was gaming operations that were poorly run.  By 1938, most of Sin City belonged to former Captain of the LAPD vice squad, Guy McAfee and his LA associates.

A dream in the desert that ended with a bullet, “Bugsy” Siegel’s Flamingo hotel thrilled.  The Flaming was different from any bar or club in Las Vegas.  It was post World War 2 and the Flamingo brought a tropical paradise to the western themed Las Vegas.

Bringing in Stars from Los Angeles found Vegas a welcome treat to tourist. By the time the first jets were flying to the east coast, Las Vegas was no longer a provincial adult playground.  With the speed of travel reduced, the East Coast could spend a few days indulging in the last outpost of the pioneer spirit.

Things have changed quite a bit but be sure Sin City is alive.  With thousands of hotel rooms, wild adult entertainment and gambling, Sin City is still the world’s playground.

Las Vegas like many cities offers adult entertainment and a vibrant gay and lesbian community, as well as a thriving gaming industry.  Nevertheless, Las Vegas stands apart from every city in the world.
